The Madoo Poetry Pot Designed by Robert Dash
Terra cotta importers Seibert & Rice, employ workshops in Impruneta, Italy to hand-make their pots. Using centuries old techniques, special clay and ovens in which the pots are fired at 2000F for a week, the highly-skilled artisans of Impruneta create a product that is extraordinarily durable and frost proof. Mr. Dash designed the pot to look as if it had been buried for centuries. Some of the words have been rubbed out and the script was incised in imitation of cuneiform or Greek. The various rhymes circle around Madoo, which means "My Dove" and the text has echoes of Gertrude Stein's 'I am a rose'. The Poetry Pot will be available through the Seibert & Rice catalog and locally, at the Garden and select retailers.
Renowned garden photographer Mick Hales has just released Gardens Around the World: 365 Days, published by Harry N. Abrams, Inc. Madoo is one of the gardens featured in Mr. Hales' beautiful book, in which he describes Madoo as ". . . a New York treasure."
